# Visitors

See every visitor who triggered a recording, and their session history.

## What counts as a visitor

A visitor is someone you've identified by name, not just a session that happened. You identify
them by calling the snippet's identify() function, usually right after they log in or sign up:

jsReplayPilot.identify("user_123", { email: "jane@example.com", plan: "pro" });

The first argument is your own user ID, however you already track it. The second is optional:
any traits you want attached, like email or plan. See [Install the snippet](/docs/getting-started)
for how to add the snippet itself.

Sessions where you never call identify() stay anonymous. They still show up as recordings on
the Replays page with no name attached, so you lose nothing. They just won't appear here.

## What each row shows

Every visitor on this page gets one row, no matter how many sessions they've had:

- **Sessions**: how many recordings this visitor has, added up across all of them.

- **Last seen**: when their most recent session happened.

- **Status**: whether any of their sessions had an error.

- **Traits**: the extra info you passed to identify(), taken from their most recent session.

## When identity shows up

Calling identify() updates the dashboard right away, even in the middle of a session. You don't
need to wait for the session to end before the visitor's name and traits appear.

## When to use this page

Use Visitors when you want to answer "what has this specific customer experienced?" instead of
scrolling through a list of anonymous sessions. Search or filter by a visitor's ID to pull up
every session they've ever had, in one place.
